Location: Remote (EU, UK, Canada, or US). Preference for Stockholm, Sweden.Company: FirstQFMFirstQFM is a Stockholm-based deep-tech company developing machine-learning foundation models to improve the performance and scalability of quantum computers. Our work combines machine learning, quantum computing, and high-performance computing to enable more powerful and reliable quantum computing systems.We are seeking a senior research scientist with strong expertise in both quantum computing and machine learning to design, build, and deploy next-generation foundation models. The role involves defining new research directions, developing models end-to-end, and taking projects from concept to production. The position offers wide scope for initiative, technical creativity, and ownership.Responsibilities:- Research, design, and implement machine learning models that improve the performance and scalability of quantum computers.- Develop and maintain the software and infrastructure needed for model deployment.- Plan experiments, analyze outcomes, and refine model architectures.- Establish tools, standards, and methods that will guide future technical growth.Required qualifications:- PhD (or equivalent experience) in Quantum Physics, Quantum Computing, Machine Learning, or a related field.- Proven ability to develop and deploy machine learning models with Python and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.- Deep understanding of quantum computing and quantum algorithms.- Experience with common quantum SDKs, Amazon Braket, and machine learning development and deployment resources on AWS.- Familiarity with ion trap, superconducting, and neutral atom quantum computing platforms.- Self-directed, resourceful, and comfortable leading projects independently.- Excellent communication skills in English.Preferred qualifications:- Hardware-level experience with ion-traps.- Publications or open-source contributions in relevant fields.- Experience with high-performance computing and large-scale machine learning model development and deployment.Employment type:- Sweden: Full-time permanent employee with benefits under Swedish labor law.- Outside Sweden: Full-time remote team member under an administrative contractor arrangement for compliance purposes only, with equivalent compensation and equity.Compensation:FirstQFM provides competitive compensation tailored to the candidate's location and equity participation.
