We are looking for a unique hybrid talent: a Patent Attorney who can draft high-quality patents while simultaneously helping us code and automate the drafting process itself.

The role

This is not a traditional patent attorney or agent role. You won’t be billing hours; you will be building the machine that writes the patents.

As a Patent Attorney, you will split your time between two critical, deeply connected areas. First, you will act as the "expert-in-the-loop," actively drafting and reviewing patents for our clients to ensure top-tier quality. Second, you will translate your deep domain expertise into engineering inputs—working directly with our AI models, prompt architectures, and software engineers to codify, automate, and scale the patent drafting workflow.

What you’ll do

• Patent Drafting: Draft, review, and refine high-quality patent applications (claims, descriptions, and figures) across various technology sectors, utilizing Lightbringer’s internal AI tools.
• AI & Prompt Engineering: Collaborate with our software engineers to design, test, and optimize LLM prompts and agentic workflows that generate accurate, legally sound patent text.
• Codifying Legal Logic: Translate complex legal requirements, EPO/USPTO guidelines, and drafting methodologies into structured rules, templates, and algorithmic workflows.
• Evaluation & Benchmarking: Actively test and benchmark the quality of our AI outputs, identifying edge cases, hallucination risks, and areas where the AI’s legal reasoning can be improved.
• Feedback Loop: Serve as the core bridge between the legal domain and product development, turning your hands-on drafting insights into product features.

Who you are

• The Hybrid Background: You have a background in a technical field (Computer Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, etc.) paired with formal experience in patent drafting (e.g., as a Patent Attorney, Patent Agent, or Patent Engineer).
• Tech-Savvy & Automation-Minded: You don’t just use software; you love figuring out how it works. You have experience with—or a massive appetite for—Prompt Engineering, Python, or working directly with LLM APIs.
• Startup Mindset: You are excited by the prospect of disrupting a traditional industry and are comfortable iterating quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Language: Fluent in English (our primary operating and drafting language).
