DevOps Engineer & Platform Builder (.NET/C#)
Do you want to build the platform powering Europe’s next-generation energy services? Join Photoncycle to design and scale a secure, cloud-native .NET stack for real climate impact.
Photoncycle is reimagining the energy landscape by delivering energy as a service. Our mission is to build, install, own, and operate distributed energy storage systems and the digital infrastructure required to scale as an aggregator and electricity provider across European markets. Photoncycle is financed by venture capital, with Lifeline Ventures, one of the leading early-stage investors in the Nordics, as the largest external owner.
Our software platform is a critical enabler of this mission, supporting the digital services and operations required to scale the business, with a strategic focus on self-hosting in Europe.
The Role
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer and Platform Builder to help design, build, and operate a scalable software platform for Photoncycle’s next-generation energy services.
This is a hands-on engineering role with two core dimensions:
• Platform & DevOps focus (primary): Build the cloud platform, delivery pipelines, observability, and operational foundations that allow multiple .NET services to scale reliably.
• Application development focus (secondary): Contribute as a C# developer on selected backend services and platform components.
You will work closely with software developers, control system engineers, data/optimization specialists, and product stakeholders to continuously improve and scale the platform.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and operate a secure, scalable platform for Photoncycle’s .NET/C# software stack.
• Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines for services, integration workflows, and controlled production rollouts.
• Implement platform capabilities for observability (logs, metrics, traces), incident response, and reliability engineering.
• Establish and evolve infrastructure as code, environment provisioning, and deployment automation across development, test, and production.
• Enable robust event-driven and API-driven integrations across the platform and connected business systems.
• Contribute to architecture and implementation of backend services using C#/.NET, including domain-oriented service boundaries and data flows.
• Support engineering teams with internal platform tooling, developer experience improvements, and operational best practices.
• Drive reliability, security, and compliance practices aligned with a Zero-Trust mindset and EU-hosted cloud constraints.
What We’re Looking For (Senior Level)
Must-have experience
• Significant hands-on experience in DevOps / Platform Engineering for cloud-native systems.
• Strong backend development experience in C# and .NET.
• Proven experience operating distributed systems with message brokers and relational databases (e.g., RabbitMQ, Postgres).
• Proven hands-on work with CI/CD, containerized workloads, release automation, and environment management.
• Experience with production monitoring, incident troubleshooting, and improving service reliability.
• Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across platform and application engineering responsibilities.
Nice-to-have
• Experience with architectural patterns such as modular monolith and/or microservices, DDD, and event-driven integration.
• Experience in regulated, security-sensitive, or energy-related software environments.
• Experience using coding agents/AI-assisted software development tools in professional engineering workflows.
If you bring strong senior engineering fundamentals and relevant experience from adjacent domains, we encourage you to apply even if you do not match every item above exactly.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
• Engineering teams can deliver software to production quickly, safely, and with confidence.
• Platform reliability, security, and operational visibility continuously improve.
• Shared platform foundations are adopted across services and teams.
• You contribute directly to both platform engineering and backend application development in C#.
What We Offer
We hope that you find our journey ahead as exciting as we do. We have invested significantly in our technology, and you will now be an integral part of securing state-of-the-art quality to our products. Your work and your impact will be central to the company's future success and growth.
At Photoncycle, you can expect favourable conditions, and an exceptional opportunity for your professional journey that include:
• The opportunity to build foundational software for a high-impact climate technology company.
• A central role in shaping the platform that powers Photoncycle’s fleet and market operations.
• A collaborative, mission-driven engineering culture with significant ownership.
• A centrally located office in Forskningsparken with strong amenities and social activities.
• A flexible work culture that encourages in-person collaboration, with one designated focus day per week for remote work.
