Technology Developer (Data Analytics & Optimization)
Do you want to build intelligent energy systems that power real homes? Join Photoncycle to develop AI-driven analytics and optimization, and to drive the clean energy transition.
Photoncycle is reimagining the energy landscape by delivering energy as a service. Our mission is to build, install, own, and operate a fleet of distributed energy storage systems and the digital infrastructure required to function as an aggregator under the EU Clean Energy Package 4 and Directive 2019/944. We empower prosumers and local energy communities by enabling flexible, decentralized participation in energy markets. Photoncycle is financed by venture capital, with Lifeline Ventures, one of the leading early-stage investors in the Nordics, as the largest external owner.
The Role
We are seeking a Technology Developer to play a key role in the development of Data Analytics and Optimization engines for the Energy Management Platform of our household energy units. This role is central to enabling intelligent, autonomous operation of our distributed assets, ensuring optimal performance across seasonal and real-time energy demands.
This role will work closely with the developer responsible for the Control Systems, forming a core part of our Software development team.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement the Data Analytics Engine to process operational, market, grid, and user data.
Apply machine learning techniques for forecasting (e.g., energy demand, solar generation) and anomaly detection.
Develop the Optimization Engine to dynamically generate dispatch schedules that balance heat and electricity supply and demand for single and multiple households.
Formulate and efficiently solve multi-objective optimization problems that reflect user preferences, market opportunities, regulatory requirements, and equipment constraints.
Support specialists from other engineering disciplines to design control strategies that coordinate the operation of battery, thermal, and chemical storage systems to maximize household-level system performance.
Implement Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery/Deployment (CI/CD) practices for the Energy Management Platform.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration with the household energy platform and the broader fleet management platform.
Qualifications
Strong background in data science, machine learning, and optimization algorithms.
Solid understanding of energy systems, control theory, and grid operations. Experience with multi-modal energy storage modeling and control strategy design is a strong differentiator.
Hands-on experience with time-series forecasting and anomaly detection using Python and tools such as Pandas, scikit-learn, Prophet, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
Familiarity with real-time decision systems and optimization frameworks like Pyomo, Gurobi, or CPLEX. Hands-on experience with implementation of these frameworks using C# or C++ in ARM-based embedded systems is a strong plus.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative startup environment.
What We Offer
We hope that you find our journey ahead as exciting as we do. We have invested significantly in our technology, and you will now be an integral part of securing state-of-the-art quality to our products. Your work and your impact will be central to the company's future success and growth.
At Photoncycle, you can expect favourable conditions, and an exceptional opportunity for your professional journey that include:
A chance to shape the future of decentralized energy systems.
Work on cutting-edge technology with real-world climate impact.
A collaborative, mission-driven team culture.
A centrally located office in Forskningsparken with excellent infrastructure and amenities (wardrobe with showers, bike parking and wash, gym, free beer on Fridays, sport groups, social gatherings).
A flexible work culture that encourages in-person collaboration, with one designated focus day per week for remote work.
