Photoncycle
Sourcing Manager
Do you want to turn breakthrough energy science into scalable reality?
Photoncycle is reimagining the energy landscape by delivering energy as a service. Our mission is to build, install, own, and operate distributed energy storage systems and the digital infrastructure required to scale as an aggregator and electricity provider across European markets. Photoncycle is financed by venture capital, with Lifeline Ventures, one of the leading early-stage investors in the Nordics, as the largest external owner.
The Industrialisation Team is a critical enabler of this mission, bringing the proven technology from lab to fab required to scale the business.
Who are you?
You are a proactive professional who thrives in technical and commercial discussions. You have a "can-do" attitude and the ability to bridge the gap between product specifications and global supply chain logistics. You are a skilled negotiator who understands that a robust contract and a precise cost model are the foundations of any successful technological partnership.
What you will do?
As a Sourcing Manager, you will be the commercial architect of our supply chain. You will secure the high-value components for Photoncycle product. Crucially, you will act as the bridge between our lab, early phase prototype builds and the market, developing the financial frameworks that ensure our technology is as affordable as it is revolutionary.
Main tasks and key responsibilities:
Drive Strategic Sourcing: Lead procurement for chemicals and system components (fuel cells, batteries, control systems) including supplier identification and engagement.
Cost Model Development: Create and maintain detailed "Should-Cost" models for our systems, analyzing price movements of key cost drivers (raw materials, energy, and labour).
Engineering Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with our Engineering and Science teams during the design phase to influence Design-to-Cost (DTC) initiatives and meet ambitious unit cost targets.
Lead Complex Negotiations: Conduct commercial negotiations for long-term supply agreements, ensuring price stability for critical raw materials.
Robust Contracting: Draft and manage international contracts, ensuring clear terms on quality specifications, standards, and IP protection.
Chemical Supply Chain Management: Identify and audit global chemical suppliers to ensure a reliable pipeline of materials that meet strict safety and environmental regulations (REACH/CLP).
Risk & Compliance: Proactively manage risks related to chemical price volatility, transport logistics for hazardous materials, and supply security.
Performance Monitoring: Conduct Business Review Meetings (BRMs) focusing on the Quality, Sustainability, Capacity, and Cost.
What we’re looking for in terms of experience:
Sourcing of Components: Proven experience in procuring components for high-volume production operations.
Cost Modeling Expertise: Strong ability to develop unit cost models.
Contractual Excellence: Strong understanding of contract law and commercial terms, including experience with international trade.
Technical Depth: Ability to engage constructively with PhD-led engineering teams regarding chemical properties, and component technical specifications.
Strategic Negotiation: Skilled at navigating high-stakes negotiations to secure favorable terms and long-term partnership value.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with global chemical regulations and safety standards for the handling and transport of energy-related materials.
Communication: Fluent in English (spoken and written); Norwegian proficiency is a plus.
